Optional Academic Testing & Diagnostic Assessments

At Explanations Unlimited, formal assessments are not usually required to customize a private tutoring programme, although they are sometimes very beneficial. We have found that most of our clients have very good instincts about their tutoring needs, and are very good at expressing their requirements. Additionally, if there are any known or suspected learning difficulties, clients disclose their situation and provide us with any pre-existing and relevant evaluations.

Once a student is registered with Explanations Unlimited and an instructor is matched to a student, the tutor will take the time to get to know the student and their strengths, weaknesses, goals, and deadlines, so that an appropriate programme may be customized. During the first few lessons, each instructor naturally and informally assess their student's abilities as part of our tutoring services to our clients, so that the instructor can modify relevant aspects of the tutorial programme, or as necessary, make recommendations when formal testing may be required.

For those clients who may be interested in testing, there are a number of options. A variety of fee-for-service assessments are available upon request, including subject-specific academic testing, placement tests, formal assessments, and full psycho-educational test batteries (similar to an IPRC) performed by registered psychologists.
